Now I usually write about hunting but as I sit here in the blind, I am remembering to shut off my text alert on my phone. Last night I forgot and the text alert sound of Bubbles and a Splash came through loud and crystal clear, so my mind starts to wonder about fishing.
Figuring out what your going to fish for and where, take up most of the planning. Grabbing your gear and/or stopping along the way for bait is just a side note.
I have heard of most every kind of bait used, everything from maggots from a barn, hot dogs, even urinating on the hook or bait, all the way to the most expensive, realistic, beautifully hand crafted, lures money can buy, and often does. (Although I am not entirely sure that I would eat some of the fish that was caught with some of those questionable lures lol.)
With pole, license, tackle box and refreshment in hand you have the makings of a good time be it morning, afternoon or evening. While hunting ends just before dark, fishing does not. You can fish until your bait runs out or til your butt gets tired or til the person on the other end of that cell phone demands your attention or even more so, your presence.
Either way any amount of time spent fishing is never wasted, only appreciated and grateful even if you go home with an empty bucket.
